This is a fantastic Rye for both mixing and sipping. It's bright, fresh, and energetic--a good spring whiskey. It's got a strong Rye backbone. But on the front end it has a light sweetness. They're a deep herbal undertones with a light, almost single malt grassiness in the mid-palate. The nose has bits of orange oil and vanilla. There's not a lot of Oak flavor here. The only reason I knock it is that it's a really good and solid and satisfying rye, though not really distinctive. It also has a really wonderful front end and back end, but very little body in the middle, so it can feel a little hollow. Maybe a cask strength version of this would round it out a bit more.
