Nose is a little subdued with standard vanilla, caramel, corn, oak, and cinnamon notes. Some green chili pepper and orange peel as well. Ultra traditional, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Ethanol is detectable, but pretty darn low given the high proof.
Palate offers up vanilla, fruit cocktail (apple, cherry, orange, green grape) gummy Cinnamon Bear candy, tobacco leaf, and raisin. Flavors offer maximum punch, but do lack a bit of complexity.
Forever long finish brings fruit salad, leather, hot ass chili pepper, lots of oak, even more cinnamon, and barrel char/campfire smoke. A hint of bakers chocolate after everything else is gone. Mouthfeel is on the fuller side of medium-bodied and very oily.
A decent high-proof banger. Some reviews I’ve read have called this “The Stagg Jr killer” to which I say “hahaha, ummm…no” Palate is a little too simplistic and the spiciness in the finish is a little over the top. At $70, it’s close to a value prop until I remember that you can find vastly superior Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for just a few dollars more on average. Good, but not great.
