The nose is a mixture of baking spices, vanilla, citrus, and some burnt sugars. The taste is sweet but with some bitterness, almost a minerality. The longer it sits in the glencairn, the more banana becomes apparent, typical of Old Forester. The vanilla is very present as is caramel, with the citrus becoming muted. I think i prefer the 1897 for a 100 proof offering more than this offering. As with all Old Forester products, i do find that the more patient you are and allow the pour to sit, the better it becomes and the more of the banana notes develop.
