I hoped this would be my unsung hero, my hidden gem, the story of a diamond in the rough first discovered at the northern shores of Scotland. It wasn't. For a while I thought it was: it smells soft like creme brûlée, very promising. The taste however, is criminally unremarkable, like sour apples, and it has a very hot and peppery finish. Onwards, I suppose.

Slaìnte (once again, sorry for commenting so late), I agree that a whisky that divides the room adds variety and therefore value to the market. In the end, people must decide for themselves whether they like it and, before that, if they're willing to take a risk by purchase.
What I like about Clynelish is that it is not 'designed' to please the masses. I find it quite enjoyable, but I understand your reaction. I had similar issues with Old Pulteney 12 and Tobermory 10. They have character, but I do not really 'like' them. Yet, it is good to have them around, to have different options. Heaven forbid, if all malts would smell and taste the same... Cheers!
