Perhaps this is more suited for colder days, even though the weather isn't particularly great in Huntly, Scotland. This dram is predominantly earthy, peaty and smoky. I really miss the slight sweetness and fruitiness that make Laphroaig and the like so complex and enjoyable. Perhaps some water would reveal these subtleties, but neat, I'm not ordering this again until I need snow boots to get to the bar.

I know what you mean by lack of sweetness - but that's exactly what gives it character. Ledaig is no cheap copy of Islay malts, which is a good thing... It hasn't become my favorite among peated malts, but it's certainly a worthy alternative and good value for money.
It was actually your note that got me to order the Ledaig, I was really looking forward to it. I will try it again sometimes, because after a week in Scotland with almost 20 different whiskies tasted, I think it didn't really get the attention it deserves. Will that thought soothe your aching heart? ;)
My heart is a little broken by your off experience with this one! Had it on a rainy late-summer day in Glasgow and found it incredibly complex and intriguing.
