I never knew of Tomintoul; I'm sure I passed by it a dozen times and saw it on the shelf as well, but was kinda blind to it. It's too bad, cause it's actually quite good. It's not the complex deep thinking dram like a Brora or a kick-in-your-teeth like a cask strength Laphroaig, but it's a simple,down-to-earth everyday dram that you can pour on any given day. You get a mild taste of honey, peaches, and caramel. This kind of reminded me of a Dalwhinnie 15---understated elegance. Scott: thank you for introducing me to this, and the generous sample!!

Honestly I thought this was a better substitute for balvenie 12, which is a bit over priced nowadays.
This is helpful. I haven't heard much talk about Tomintoul, but it's readily available around me and a pretty good value price-wise. I'll have to check this one out!
This is the one I was curious about what you thought. It's a simple, easy which some may find dull, but you stated your opinion quite well and totally agree. Tomintoul make a decent whisky across their line; it may not blow your door off, but, as you stated: "you can pour it on any given day." What makes it even better is the price, extremely fair (across their lines). Glad you enjoyed.
