I think I found another contender for an "everyday dram". I'm quite liking this---the aroma is like walking into a leather tannery. In Mumbai, in the Dharavi district ( a huge flavela, similar to Rio's), I remember entering into this one tannery. You get the smell of soft leather, cigarettes, burnt earth, and mud. That's what this smells like. In a good way. Taste is crisp apples, molasses, and Dunkin Donuts hazelnut coffee. I love the finish...warming and nutty. I need to look into buying a full bottle. This sample was courtesy of Davie...thank you!!!

@PBMichiganWolverine - ah, that makes complete sense that you would like to hunt and kill badgers- for they are a much smaller animal than yourself. But, I think you’d have a bit of a time killing a lion. They are the king of the jungle and can be quite ferocious, although I did hear a tale about some lions attempting to attack a school of tuna that didn’t work out too well for them. There was a series of ten attacks and the lions lost nine of them. As far as a male deer’s eyes, well my sports reporter Champ Kind was described as having them while on his high school football team in the 70’s. He could detect the slightest movement of the opponent’s defensive line and foresee the small opening he needed to break long touchdown runs. I believe he still holds the California high school record for TDs in a season, at 116. Again, I implore you to buy my scotch. It can also be used to treat mange, should you or a member of your wolf pack suffer from it.
@Ronburgandy yeah...I am a Wolverine, and unfortunately don’t get along with the likes of badgers and lions ( especially from land called Nitanny ). Also have an allergic reaction to buckeyes, that abomination of a treenut.
@Ctrexman - you don’t say much, internet stranger, but the things you do say seem to make good sense. I applaud you and shall now follow you. Not in life, for I’m way too busy for that, but on this delightful Distiller application. Cheers to you, new friend. And do find yourself a bottle of my wonderful libation- it will put hair on the chests of you and any of your mates you share it with, but be mindful that it may also cause hair growth on the ladies if they drink too much. There’s nothing worse than a hairlipped lass, but there some places on a woman where the more hair there is, the bigger bite of the pie a man may take (if you catch my drift).
@PBMichiganWolverine - I have an inquiry, my friend: are you, in fact, an actual wolverine? The reason I ask is that my lovable dog and best friend, Baxter, has actually spent the last several summers in a canine family exchange program here in California. He spent a lot of time in the foothills of northern Cali learning skills such as: hunting prey, setting human foot traps, catching rainbow trout with his bare paws and, unbeknownst to me, learning Chinese sign language. We’ve had some interesting conversations over the last few weeks over this Covid-19 conspiracy, I tell you that. Unfortunately, the wolverine pup that came to stay at the Burgundy residence during the exchange spent too much time studying string theory and quantum physics while imbibing on Miss Veronica Corningstone’s breast milk. While he became strong of the mind, his turned physically feeble, and I was told he was put down by his overbearing, wolverine father. It was somewhat of a tragedy, but I assure we won’t make the same mistake next summer when they send another wolf child to our home. If you are an actual wolverine, however, I commend you on your use of the English language while still imploring you to find and purchase a bottle of Great Odin’s Raven. Your wolverine family and the many human families you may have tracked and killed will still admire your taste and sophistication.
@PBMichiganWolverine @RealRonBurgundy Ill have to find this Great Odins it sounds amazing!
@RealRonBurgundy but of course. That goes without saying. Great Odin’s is definitely the best scotch PERIOD. It’s angel nectar meant for the gods. I’m in fact not worthy to have it, so never considered buying a bottle...
Just so you are aware, the reason this whisky became so sought after is because it’s a primary component in my Great Odin’s Raven blended scotch. I believe it makes up 100% of the 65% single malt, even though a certain 21 year old malt from Macallan makes up the other 75%. Did you know: Macallan is Gaylick for Highland bearded cow penis. It’s commonly pronounced “mack-ale-yan”.
I actually really liked Dharavi. Okay---granted I'd not want to be caught there past sundown, but what I liked about it more than Rio''s flavelas is that it had its own economy going. Was a mini-Mumbai, self sustained and self reliant.
Impressed you found some aromas you liked in Dharavi!
I've had a bottle of this well hidden in the liquor cabinet. Glad it's getting high marks. I just have 2 port finished whiskies open right now or I'd be eyeing it as my holiday selection. Cheers.
so true! I open up a special bottle every year on my birthday or my wife's. Next year, if my daughter gets into the gifted and talented math and science...this Brora will be popped open
Well, we can't buy everything we want, can we? More important than to buy new bottles is to actually enjoy the malts we have in our collections... It's all about quality, not quantity!
sorry...can't count...next 9 months.
Unfortunately, I'm now out of budget for next 6 months. I bought myself the Brora 2016 Diageo release, the Lagavulin 12 2016 Diageo release, and a Kilkerran 12. I"m now officially done till August 2017 in any purchases. ;-(
It's a pity that Glendronach 15 Revival is being discountinued... If you want a full bottle, you better buy now before prices are rocketing!
Davie: I know...I feel as if any description like "aromas of burnt earth", " ashtray", "turpentine" needs to be suffixed with "in a good way".
You're very welcome old boy, and I swear, I've read (and written) the phase "...but in a good way!" So many times recently, I can't help but crack up now every time I see it!
