Laphroaig Triple Wood
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland

Another stop in our tasting of Scottish distilleries, this time in Islay, sample courtesy of Lee (thank you!!). I don't think there's ever been a Laphroaig I didn't like. Till now. The peat doesn't seem well integrated here, seems really strong upfront till mid-palette, with a bitter astringent finish. One maturation too many.

I didn't like this one on my first glass, I agree. I think this one actually NEEDS oxidization a little. With a couple larger mouthfuls after being opened for a while, I actually started to like it a lot. I think the oakiness is overbearing at first though.
Dammit---autocorrect: trying again---really look forward to sipping Fridays, and I especially get into that mindset when Ryan sends out that "what's folks having?"
Accidentally hit enter...meant to write that likewise, really look forward to the sipping Fridays, and it really it's me that it's sipping Friday when Ryan send out that midday note
Scott: me too---really look forward to the the "sipping Fridays"
I haven't tried this one but I know what you mean about the quarter cask impact on a Laphroaig. I was similarly disappointed. Flavours weren't integrated well at all
Plan to sample this one over the weekend. I tasted this some time back but I look forward, now, to spending some time with it. On a side, I just had the G(r)oth [I laugh now at that: innocent fun] and too enjoyed. Will post my experience soon. The charter of this particular [virtual] tour is to experience the what each distiller. The experience is just that: we all do not have the same. I find it more fascinating comparing my experience to all others. There is strength in numbers, however, the contrasting experience as well as the shared is the best part. That being said, I too hope that you all enjoy what I have provided. This a fun journey and now have fun looking for the "Friday Sipping". Slainte!
Not at all! It's an experience trying them all.
Looks like my first round of samples was mostly duds, lol. The best thing I sent was an extra and a bourbon. I guess I have to really redeem myself in future rounds, haha. I'm glad you enjoyed that Jefferson's. My thoughts on the second round's extra is very exciting too. I just wish I could say that about my single malts, lol
By the way---Lee--that Jeffersons Groth was Amazing! Best bourbon I've had
This was my first Islay scotch ever and I recall it taking me several months to work through the bottle. By the end, I mostly enjoyed it and I'm excited to take a trip down memory lane. I'm really interested to see if my more experienced palate appreciates this one or if I feel the same way as you guys now. My friend Ryan even said it's just too much wood mixed into the smoke and fire. Great review, Pranay. Cheers.
I think that quarter cask maturation was too intense for me.
That's disappointing. I had higher hopes. Maybe it will treat me a little better. It can't be worse than Select
