Talisker 57º North
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland

A really good whisky, and one of the more complex ones I have ever come across, though all of the aromas do not always play nice. Whereas both the Talisker 10 and 18 are five piece bands that play on beat, the 57 North is more of a grandiose orchestra, at times majestic and at other times discordant. The nose initially exposes you to asian pear, brine, and a difficult to identify disinfectant you usually smell at the dentist's office (in a good way). The palate adds layers of ocean air, subtle raisins (almost like a sherry) and sweet caramel squares. The finish itself is enveloping and smooth, though a certain undertone of bitterness takes away from the overall pleasure. Still, it's great stuff.

Is this one duty free? You should be a salesman, man... You have a knack for descriptions. =)
Great review - nailed it.
Michigan has some higher liquor prices than most states, but you Canadians really get screwed on tax for it. I saw it at duty free at the Detroit-Windsor tunnel. Ut I forget the price. Probably close to what you saw
In QC it retails for $175 CAD and you get 700 ml, which I was found to be a little too pricey for my stomach. However, I found it at a duty-free shop for $80 CAD and you get a full liter. Much more reasonable.
Great review. I've passed on this one a few times due to the price point but I may just have to grab it the next time I see it
