A very pleasant Springbank, with those familiar aromas you either love or hate depending on your point of view. I personally enjoy it and found this expression to be crisp and fresh, with notes of soft peat and salt. The smoke is so faint it almost isn't there, and while some reviews have identified fruity aromatic compounds, I mostly experience very complementary floral notes and barley (sweet and toasted). Interestingly the palate is a little bit of a departure from what one usually experiences with Springbank, with the body being much less oily and full-bodied - it's rather light for something at 46% ABV. As for the finish: prolong and satisfying. I can see myself buying this bottle. Cheers!

@Joe_C - yeah, I’m gonna be at Whiskyfest in DC with @Generously_Paul and @Telex and that’ll probably be my whisky-influenced trip for 2018. Hope to drink some good stuff over those 2 days. One day I hope to get to Scotland.
@Joe_C no plans in traveling abroad (yet). Will get there hopefully someday soon.
@Joe_C, I’m going to the DC Whiskyfest in April and that pretty much eats up any time away from the family I get. Hope it’s a great festival
@Joe_C No, I wish I could but it's just not possible. Mrs Cascode came with me on my big tour of Scottich distilleries last year for my 60th birthday, so this year is "ladies choice" for vacation spots. Regarding Springbank casks, I have the distinct impression that rather than a regular contract they buy what they can, when they can, in small batches when their barrel selectors come across something interesting or high quality for their own coopers to work on.
@SolanaRoots I’ve tried a sample of the Local Barley 16 yr old. One word: AMAZING!!!
@Joe-C unfortunately no, we just planned our summer vacation...a bit south of Speyside. Two week road trip through England
@Generously_Paul @Slainte-Mhath @Rick_M @Scott_E @PBMichiganWolverine @LeeEvolved @mikael @cascode @Dreaming-of-Islay @ScotchingHard Any of you peeps hitting the Speyside Whisky Festival in May? Was wondering if I was going to have the pleasure of meeting any of you there. 😏
@Joe_C - Haven’t tried any of them. I’ve seen the Springbank Green 13yr but didn’t pull the trigger & when I went back it was gone. Have never seen the Green 12yr or any of the three Local Barleys
@SolanaRoots I bought the Local Barley 16 but haven't opened it yet. I can't bear the thought of doing so. You?
Hey @Joe_C - did you ever buy a bottle of this or any of Springbank’s Local Barley offerings?
Great distillery, BUT I've always questioned the quality of their sherry casks.
Notice how all the Springbnks, regardless of OB or IB, are either 4 or 5 stars?
