My favorite scotch, alongside Talisker 10. This one opens with a beautiful char, almost like searing a filet, and yet layers in dark berry notes quickly. There is a perfect call and response between the smoke and peat, on the one hand, and moderate sweetness, on the other. Pepper arrives first on the palate, then smoke curls in from around the edges of the mouth. There are hints of saltiness, but the longer it mingles in the mouth, the more caramel and honey emerge. The finish is the highlight here, impossibly long (new flavors emerging even minutes later) and complex, with hickory smoke and a flowering of 60+% dark chocolate.

Skinner Inc. in the Boston area runs 3 or 4 wine & spirit auctions per year that do very well. They are very reputable but have hefty buying and selling premiums.
Pranay, perhaps in 10-20 years when its value increases there will be a more established secondary market here in the states. I bought two bottles of the 18 year old as well and two of the Lagavulin 8 for the same purpose. Either that or I have 3 Rare bottles to drink in the future
Agreed. I don't understand why this expression gets so much hate.
Laphroaig and Talisker are joint No. 1 in my book. It's funny, I just did the exact same thing, bought two bottles of this to save. I fully intend to drink them in due time, it's a lovely thought to know I could have a bottle of this Laphroaig 15 even 10 years later while I explore other scotches. And by then I'll be able to brag that I'm drinking a $X dollar scotch, I'm confident this bottling will increase in value.
Paul---even if it goes up in value, it's not a liquid asset (no pun intended)...how would you sell it? There's no secondary market (at least a trusted one) in the US for spirits (only for wine)
Laphroaig is what turned me on to scotch. Instantly fell in love with the peat and overall flavor profile. I grabbed two bottles of this 15 year old. One to drink and one to hang onto for a few years to see if it goes up in value. I suspect I'll be drinking both. Will open one sooner or later
