Single Malt — Islay, Scotland

Strong barley, stewed fruits, salt, and soda on the nose. Some medicinal notes as well. Thick and oily on the tongue, almost syrupy. It's sweeter than a standard single malt but there's a nice spice and heat kick that prevents this from being cloying. The proof really shines through here. Cereal and bitter chocolate linger, as well as smoke. Maybe I can't tell the difference between smoke and peat, but this still to me has slight peat notes, even though this is unpeated, maybe it just speaks to the region, the distinct flavor must permeate the air and water in Islay. This is very rich, anyone will find something in this that they'll like. 6/12/17
