You know what would make this better? Not having it forcibly at 6am in Newark Airport. Okay, so---it's Monday morning and I was to catch a flight from EWR to PHX. I took this sample generously provided by Richard@moderndrinking, thinking that I'll have it after a long day in Phoenix in my hotel room. I even put it in its own ziplock bag. Ms. TSA then pulls me aside after scanning my bag, and tell me I can't bring this with me. "But why, I'm carrying bigger liquids like a shaving cream and cologne. Why not this?" Nope...there's no reasoning. But I'd be damned if my Laphroaig was to be destined forever in the bottom of some TSA bin. I stepped out of line, went to a bar, asked for a glass with a sliver of water. And thoroughly enjoyed this fine piece of artistry. Classic Laphroaig, but less punch in the face, some dates and figs, with some astringency at the end. I need to pick up a bottle. Thanks for the sample Richard!

lap 10 and eggs.....breakfast of champions
Well done! I'm not sure I would have handled it so commendably, but now I know how to handle it. Come to think of it, the last time I was at EWR they had pulled all alcohol from duty free. Insult to injury....
@PBMichiganWolverine I agree!!! Cheers
@PBMichiganWolverine - 6 am? Laphroaig seems like the perfect breakfast in and of itself. ;) Glad you got to enjoy!
@imwithbourbon that’s right. So who cares if folks are eyeing me having whisky at 6am. It’s a Laphroaig...you can have it anytime.
You sir are a hero in my book! Very boss of you standing up to TSA’s bogus no explanation bull***
Great description of the environment =) ... Between this and the PX/QA (which I like a lot) is it on par, or even better? This seems to get better reviews somehow.
Just one more reason not to like the Newark airport...I'm trying to think of a positive experience in the times I've flown through there, but I'm drawing a blank. Silver lining - at least the whisky was good!
I carried on the same couple of nips in a ziplock on a bunch flights and was never asked about them. Then 2 years ago in Edinburgh the labels were facing down and a security guy asked, "What are those?" I said, "Old fashioned sleeping pills." He said, "Yes, but what brand?" I responded with, "Oh, Johnnie Black." He said, "Good choice!" (true story)
I've had a few Laphroiag's set me on fire, but I'd never...
She asked me what is it, so I told her that it's a single malt whiskey, and it's less than their limited 5 ounces. She then said "it's flammable". I guess so...but, which idiot would set a Laphroaig on fire?
Not even if it was Laphroaig Select would I be forced to part with a dram of Laphroaig in a situation like that.
I suspect the TSA agent knew the contents and was hoping you would leave it behind so he could take it home (just kidding?).
Haha. Good on ya! :-)
Ah yes, airport security... hope you enjoyed it anyway.
Even if I had another, I'd not waste a Laphroaig. Yeah...five hour trip went smoother than expected!
Hilarious! I would have gladly sent you another, but I think you made the right call. I trust it made the whole day go much easier.
