My first Kilchoman and I must say I'm impressed. The closest Islay I can compare it to flavour profile wise is Lagavulin 16. I can't believe this is only 5 years old. Rich peatiness, gunpowder, ash, cacao. Bitterness detracts a bit from the experience but not to overpowering. I'd love to see this in 2026 and put it head to head with Laga16. It's a slight price premium to Laga 16 (well the 2017 edition can't find the 2015) here in NZ which in my mind isn't justified but hey still good value for money. Def solid 4 at least, maybe early 4's. Looking forward to trying the '17 edition

I have a 2010 sample of this I need to get to.
Yes I haven't had many whiskies of similar age but say it's personally one of the best for it's age if not the top I've had up there with Octomore although unlike the latter not ridiculously priced. I have a sample of Machir bay and others from the distillery which I can't wait to get stuck in to :-)
Very nice to hear! Their whiskies are amazing for their age. The Machir Bay, which is a mix of 3-6 year old barrels, is similar to (but less smoky than) Ardbeg 10. It is priced a little higher, but I'm willing to pay a slight premium to support such a promising up and coming distillery.
