Let me just start off by noting that three of the previous seven notes written by people for this bottling are actually for the 18-year-old, which means the user rating average here is inaccurate. That said, I gave the 18-year-old three stars, and I have in general never enjoyed Aberfeldy whiskies. This one is no exception. In fact it's outright bad, which to my defense isn't a prejudice against this distillery since every single Aberfeldy I've ever tried with the exception of the 12 was by blind tasting. This 16-year-old is just not good! It started off well, with the nose having pleasant hints of citrus, oak and honeycomb. The mouth and finish though... the devil distilled this.

@Kyle-Brady Good question. 😊. I do - Kavalan make good whiskies. The expression you're considering is actually the only one I own. I recommend.
@Joe_C I was just whisky shopping online (a magnificently time and money-consuming habbit!) and checking out the Kavalans. Do you feel good about recommending the Bourbon Oak? Thanks!
You include the Outland and exclude the Glen Breton 10? We need to have a serious talk :)
@Dreaming of Islay: I'm glad you asked! (With a flair for the dramatic, pause, and theater pose.) I also have a list of bottles under $100 that each represent a whisky making country: The Nikka 12, Amrut Fusion, Four Roses Single Barrel, Nomad Outland, Three Ships 10, Kavalan Ex-Bourbon Oak, Lot 40 Rye, Armorik Sherry Oak, Tullamore DEW 14.
Nice lineup, thanks!
I love that selection and appreciate the wisdom behind it given your 300 reviews! Of the ones I've tried, I love every one on your list with the exception of the Glenlivet. Any international picks for non-scotch whiskies?
That is a really tough question my friend. I'm not actually capable, and I've had this conversation with my brother. I came to the conclusion that the fairest thing would be for me to have my seven most favorite scotch whiskies under $100, each representative of a Scottish region. They are: Auchentoshan Blood Oak, Glenlivet Nadurra First Fill, Macallan 12 Sherry Oak, Talisker 10, Kilkerran 12, Laphroaig 10, and Johnnie Walker Green Label. Those are my Magnificent Seven, and they're the bottles I would recommend to someone who would ask me for the perfect AND AFFORDABLE scotch collection.
After 300 reviews, what's been your favorite?
Ha! It is mostly blended to hide its weaknesses, but laughed at your last line.
