Hot damn! What a *different* kind of Islay whisky. It reminds me of the Lagavulin 16 Distiller's Edition, but not as refined. But hey! The 40 U.S. dollar savings is something to consider. I think I would snag this above the Laphroaig Triplewood. Is that blashpemy? Well, this is a love it or hate it scotch, and even though the first sip was iffy, that second and thereafter had me coming back for more... and more...

I found Bowmore early in my scotch quest and fell in love with them. So much so I ended up buying a lot of their older, pricier options. When I go back and try them now I'm a little disappointed in their lack of refinement and overall flavor profile, but they'll always have a place at my bar because they are the ones that got me on the scotch whisky path. Great review, sir. Cheers.
Yes, I actually like to try whiskies where there seems to be varying reviews, sometimes you find a flavor palate that just suits you. Mind you, if most of the reviews are unfavorable then I take pause
I hear that this one in particular has some sulfuric properties, and that would be a first for me. Now that I know it doesn't seem to be off putting to me as to some others, I won't be afraid of that note appearing in the review.
I hear ya Mashtun - I was just reading a guy's review on some of my favorite Islays, and he gave them two and three stars. I still follow him though because I appreciate sherries as he does, so you never know what kind of other palate info you need.
I didn't enjoy this whisky, but I did enjoy your review.
