Only 2 Rums left on my "rated but not yet written a note" list. Then I can go on to new stuff. Thankfully, both are awesome Rums.
This baby here is at the moment my personal top Rum. Discovered it by accident, I ordered a Ron Zacapa, but they had none left, and offered me this instead. Glad they did.
On the Nose you immediatly get intense raisins, dark dried fruits, plums, honey, cinnamon and a hint of citrus.
Taste is sweet, but not too sweet. I prefer my rums a bit sweeter anyway, so this is perfect, and I really don't care if they add sugar to achieve this taste. You also get honey, plums, spices like cinnamon and other christmas-ish spices.
The aftertaste is long, sweet and there is a bit of dried pineapple in there.
All in all, top shelf material, and at about 30 bucks a bottle this is gonna be a mainstay of my collection. Word of advice though, they renamed it to Botucal Reserva Exclusiva...couldn't find any Ron Diplomatico anywhere, until I figured that out.

Thanks. That's the advantage of writing while tasting, I just write down what pops into my head first without too much time to overthink it. As for the rename, that could be a regional thing. Seems they went for Botucal in Europe, but for America they stayed with Ron Diplomatico. Not quite sure, information is a bit scarce on this one. Still the same juice tho, so yeah^^
Had this guy for the first time this weekend while in Louisville (bourbon land) with some friends from the area. Gotta say your tasting notes are spot on. Question about the rename: if I found it this weekend does it mean only some of the batch was named to Botucal or did I just catch one of the last bottles with this branding?
Nope, haven't tried the Ambassador. Yet. 200 bucks is a bit steep for me. Might get enough money for christmas to afford one (thanks grandmas^^), but the Highland Park 18 is in front of it on the list. It also doesn't help that this isn't my only expensive hobby....^^ If you go for the Ambassador, would you write a note? Kinda interested in that one too. Hmm..i think I'll do a Rum tasting today...still got a few samples lying around that I haven't tried yet. Bowmore 12 can wait.
Just tried this recently. It was so worth it. Going the Caribbean this winter. Thinking about going big with the Ambassador. Have you tried?
This is the rum that got me into spirits. I thought i was being offered a port which was the reason I drank it straight. The rest was history!
