Hamilton really delivers on quality for price. This rum is great, it's somewhat difficult to find Guyana rum that isn't dosed (sugar added) and this one doesn't seem to be. Really get that brown sugar, oaky hit in the rum and it's just become one of my go-tos on my shelf. Really solid, robust stuff.

Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum (Discontinued)
Dark Rum — Barbados
Reviewed August 16, 2019 (edited May 18, 2020)This is a great rum for the price truly. If you're a whiskey sipper then go for this one to sip. This is the stock Mount Gay stuff finished in very charred ex-bourbon barrels and the result is rich and bitter. Again for the price this is excellent Edit: looks like they upped the price by a decent margin cause it caught on. Less worth the price but I won't change my rating for now.30.0 USD per Bottle -
This is a dosed (sugar added in the bottle) rum for sure. For the price this is *not* good at all. $50 is ridiculous. I would love the complexity of this but the added sugar really just takes away from it and makes it so damn hard to taste the complexity. For sipping neat I'll stick to Bajan and other non dosed rums! For mixing this is good but way overpriced.50.0 USD per Bottle

Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Gold
Gold Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed March 20, 2019 (edited January 4, 2022)This is an *excellent* rum for the price. Truly great stuff. As a blend it seems very lightly aged. Still got an underaged bite to it that burns a decent amount. With that burn comes some real complexity tho. Some really enchanting fruity notes here with subtle molasses/toffee complexity.25.0 USD per Bottle -
Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Rum
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed March 11, 2019 (edited March 27, 2020)This is a solid rum for the price. I like this much more than the regular (less old) signature blend. I wonder if they're the same blends or if the age really makes a difference. I think for the price (around $33 right now) this is an excellent choice. This is also a good entry into a "purists" rum. No/very little sugar is added (unlike Diplomatico which has way too much sugar added). I much prefer these rums as you can start truly finding what notes and flavors make them unique (similar to whiskeys). If you like sipping whiskeys, especially Bourbons, this is a good entry into rum. Like any good whiskey it'll mix well but also stands out in its own.35.0 USD per Bottle -
I love the folks at this distillery and I think this bourbon is super smart and fun. It's a straight bourbon so it obviously sits the two required years in a new barrel but then they rest it in used rum casks and that's really what stands out in this bourbon. Smoothe rum caramel with the corn after taste.

George Dickel No. 12
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 18, 2019 (edited April 21, 2019)I'm able to pick up this bottle for about $27. I think for the price this is a solid Tennessee Sour Mash for the price. -
Old Grand-Dad Bonded Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 2, 2019 (edited August 29, 2019)For the price I think this is an *excellent* bourbon. If you're into high rye bourbon or Kentucky style rye then try this out! -
It's definitely pretty good but for me personally leaves a bit to be desired. Compared to Redemption Rye (similar mashbill) it's a decent but smoother. The Redemption will punch you in the face with it's spiced/Rye nose. I suspect this mashbill has corn in it where the redemption does not. While this Rye is by no means bad I personally find it a bit lacking in terms of what I like in my flavor profiles. It takes a bit of the Rye punch off which can be good or bad depending on what you're in the mood for, but beyond the subtle/interesting nose (for a high rye mash) this ain't got much going for it. It's simply too smooth/subtle after the nose to really get much of anything. Obviously these reviews are subjective. If you can find this whiskey decently priced (<$35) then see for yourself if you like it. I definitely think it's pretty good but I can get stuff I prefer for the price. Namely Knob Creek Rye if you want the best of both worlds (of a rye with high corn in the mash) or Redemption Rye if you want the true, high/pure Rye experience.
