Edradour 10 Year The Distillery Edition
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed
September 18, 2017 (edited February 24, 2020)
Based in Pitlochry and owned by independent bottler Signatory Vintage, Edradour remains one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Rich honey sweetness, heather and a diffuse flowery scent encounter the nose on first contact. Very nice, but obviously young. Something bothers me on the palate. It is neither the sweet maltiness, paired with oranges and spices, nor the soft and creamy character. There is something sharp and herbaceous that is hard to pin down. The finish is fairly short with honey and bitter nuts. Not a bad malt, but slightly disjointed.

@Slainte-Mhath When I reviewed this one, ages ago, I struggled to find the right words and never quite got it right. "Liquid Ricola Swiss herb candy" is a perfect description - thank you!
After spending some more time with Edradour 10, I'd decribe the palate as liquid Ricola Swiss herb candy... a bit obscure. One point down to 79, but still interesting enough to give it a try. A miniature or 20 cl bottle will do.
Re-visited in 01/2020: Not much has changed here. The nose is really pleasant, but then the taste takes over the wheel and drives this whisky deep into a ditch. There is something odd on the palate, but I still can't put my finger on it. Herbaceous and sharp is as close as I can get. Only the nose saves it from falling below 3 stars.
All independently bottled Dalmores are better that the OB's. Same with Jura: both distilleries suffer from what I'd call 'overbranding'.
Interested in buying this one. Recently tried some signatory dalmores... better than dalmore.
