Surprisingly, for all it’s hype and hysteria, I wasn’t impressed by last year’s release. I’ve had the 2016, 2014, and this 2017. 2016 was the best followed by a close second on rhe 2014, and this way behind. It has all the caramel, but with way too much heat, and not the lasting complexity of the 2016 or 2014. Just a quick hot finish. Glad I bought a pour and not the full bottle.

Nice, a biochemist is/was a an idea of a professional delineation that young student had many moons ago in college; mainly myself - and to differentiate that idea into a memorable email address “[email protected]” was born... cheers!
Good to know because I’ve been trying to track this down. I’ll stick with the regular small batch.
@Evilbiochemist yeah--the 2016 is by far better. The 2014 comes close behind as well. By the way...what type of biochemist? I got my BS in chem Eng with a hefty dose of bio ages ago from Univ of Mich
I bought a bottle at a pretty heavy price tag and was like ....meeah 🤷🏼♂️, I can’t say I would rave about it, and I probably wouldn’t even offer it up to friends like “dude, you gotta try this!”. The flavor is going too many different directions at once and reminds me a bourbon vatting attempt that fails to complement one another. Is the 2016 more pronounced and specific on the palate?
@Dreaming-of-Islay yeah the 2016 was really good. And so was the '14. I sort of felt one could do better with the barrel proof store ones than this. And for a fraction of the price
What a shame! Considering the hefty price these official bottlings command, I’m usually pretty happy to just grab up a store pick instead of hunting these down, even though the 2016 (the only one I’ve tried) was great.
