Nothing consumable on God’s earth is worth this kind of money, yet here I am to tell you that 1220/8000 is mine. My love of Lagavulin and optics alone were enough for me to buy this. After doing a little research, I noticed the 25yo, 2002 edition has almost doubled in market value at auction since this introduction. Given the historical significance of the 200th anniversary releases, I’m sure this investment will continue to hold its value as long as I can resist the temptation to drink it. It would take a very special occasion for me to crack this baby open, so for now I’ll justify my stupidity as a fine arts purchase, and hope my wife doesn’t find the receipt. :)

Selling still under 1200 in the US....I love nothing more than when whiskies don't gain value!
@Rick_M @LeeEvolved funny you mention that...I had guests and offeeed them a Balvenie 21 Madeira...they opted for Trader Joe lemonade. Seriously.
@LeeEvolved - I gave my guests a choice and they opted for the pork bellies. :)
@Rick_M - oh yeahhhhh! Crack that bad boy! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts tomorrow morning. Cheers.
Maybe I’ll open it today. Happy 4th all! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@Evilbiochemist totally agree...my investments are equities, real estate, and bonds
@PBMichiganWolverine - drink that shit! - fuck the “future”, we could all be dead tomorrow. Why invest in something so tempting? For Heavens sake go for real estate, pharma, pork bellies, or gold... Mmmmmm... gold pork bellies .....😁
I remember @Slainte-Mhath saying there was someone that bought 16 at the time. I’m sure he raked in a decent 5 figure profit now
@Rick_M it’s a serious problem...takes too long to find these things.
@PBMichiganWolverine - I am shocked by that price. I only bought that thing 2 years ago.
@PBMichiganWolverine - yes, like you, it would take too much work to dig it out even if I did want to open it. :)
@Rick_M wow !! You still have your bottle ?
One of these just sold at an online wine and spirits auction for $2,091. Skinner Inc. in the Boston area. Not bad; double your money in 3 years. https://m.skinnerinc.com/search?s=Lagavulin+25
You're still posting so I guess she hasn't found the receipt 😀
Pop that sucker! LOL j/k Of course, I'd certainly make sure the occasion is commensurate to the bottle.
Ok, you have appealed to my better nature. I’ve been hinting for another grandchild; maybe that would do it. If I do get crazy, the toast will be “slàinte mhath” in your honor. :)
Good boy! I am sure this bottle will double its market value in the next years to come, but I'd actually consider to pop the cork on a very special occasion. That's at least what I am planning to do with my bottle. And don't wait to long - life's short and the heirs might drink this gem with diet coke or soda ;-)
I have bid unsuccessfully on Brora’s with Skinner online auctions. Brora Golf Club is one of my favorites in Scotland. The cattle and sheep roam the fairways along with the golfers.
I was tempted too...I used the same logic on the Brora 38 yr old release late last year.
