Spectacular! I could not heap a sufficient amount of praise for this expression even if I wanted to, and if you can get your hands on the bottle, it's worth just about any (reasonable) price.
That sherry, oak and baking spices are really strong on the nose. On the palate it's woodsy and sugary, with a syrupy and almost granular texture on the tongue; it's a mouthfeel that is more akin to an expensive cognac. A wow factor. Also notes of ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, dried fruits, and the whole damned pantry!
It's one of the all-time best!

@Slainte-Mhath @LeeEvolved @Rick_M If you cant find it at any retailers, just scan the auctions. Bound to show up there
@Joe_C Do you remember the cask number? From the picture, I thought it was this bottle, from the batch 16 release: https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/107626
@Slainte-Mhath I think so... I’ve actually never seen it in the wild either. I sampled it during a tour of the distillery - we were a dozen folks with the distillery manager.
@Joe_C Are you sure the ABV of 53.6% is correct? I only find that bottle with 56.7% ABV, cask no. 103.
@LeeEvolved good point. I had 2 hits two misses there. Not great odds.
@Soba45 Great whiskies, but odd distillery. The place kinda looks run down, you don't get to declare a reimbursement on the VAT because they don't seem to be a part of the program, and they don't even have a liquor license to be able to allow you to purchase samples to try there. Wrap your head around that on: a distillery that doesn't have a liquor license! Basically whatever money they have goes into the quality of their casks.
This is something that has secretly worried me about Glendronach’s single cask stuff- some seem like incredible offerings and some are more like overpriced, money grabs. I’ve bought 1 bottle of 20yo and I hope it lives up to its price, but as it is, I’m scared to open it. I think I’m going to avoid buying different ones in the future. Great reviews of all of your different vintages. Cheers.
Ah lucky man I would LOVE to do a single cask Glendronach flight one day...at the distillery even better!
@Rick_M Shoot... That's because they're both UK exclusives I think. I tried them at the distillery.
@Joe_C - I don’t see either one available in the US.
@Rick_M I gotta tell you though: I reviewed another Glendronach tonight and gave it 5 stars as well. That one is just as spectacular. I saw Swedes buy 4 bottles of that expression at a time - 280 GBP a pop.
@Rick_M 😉
@Joe_C - ok, you’ve got me looking around. :)
