Strathclyde 2005 11 Year Cask #11952 Old Particular (Douglas Laing)

I used to travel a bit when I was younger, after a while I noticed that seven weeks on the road was the magic mark. After that the excitement died a bit and I started to feel a bit over it at times. I think I've hit that point now a bit as I virtually trudge through the Scottish distilleries and JAFGD fatigue creeps in. I got banana and toffee on the nose and the latter and cherry on the palate. It's turning into another red flag for me the Dr Pepper / cough syrup type thing (along with lemon and bitterness) and this has a bit of it going on. Seems a bit prevalent with the sherry grained whiskies. Now don't get me wrong its not badly crafted and balanced but straight away I'm thinking of the plain old vanilla Glen Spey I quaffed before and missing it. 3.25 and another distillery notched on my walking stick as I trudge further into the scottish mist...

@Soba45 truth be told, the regular rounds are just ‘meh’. More often then not, it’s just a path to the bonus ones. Without the bonus, I’d still be in round 1
@LeeEvolved @PBMichiganWolverine @Generously_Paul Damn I really wish I was part of those bonus rounds. You just can't buy samples of that top shelf stuff and bottles are often next to impossible as well
@PBMichiganWolverine - yeah, I won 2 more bottles of the Cairdeas at Scotch Whisky Auction a couple months ago. 3 total bottles. I’ll be opening 1 for sure in time for round 7. Lol, I been dying to try it again.
@Joe_C yeah...this ain’t gonna end well though. If we don’t like it, your title of Whiskey Whisperer will be in jeopardy. And if we love, it’ll be biblical truth that every time you say “this is good” will end up causing a mad hunt and price increases 😊
@LeeEvolved. Dude, you bought more of the Cairdeas Portwood after I sold you my extra!?!? and I’m gonna guess by “additional”, you mean more than 1...
You guys please tag me once you review that bottle 🙏🏽
@Joe_C - that proclamation for the Linkwood had @Generously_Paul blowing my phone up within 30 minutes. “I found 2 bottles! I found 2 bottles! And they ship to Virginia!”- I’ve never seen him so excited. I also pay close attention when @ScotchingHard gives something a 5. His upcoming Top 5-6 of his 33 bottle countdown is probably going to murder my credit card. I’d like to think I’m not as harsh as you, @PBMichiganWolverine- but I find myself agreeing with you more often than not. It also looks like I’m going to be including a pour of the 2013 Port Wood Cairdeas with round 7 because I remember I promised a pour if I found additional bottles after Pranay sold me his extra one.
@LeeEvolved that would be us. (Harshest of critics) ☺️
Well @Joe_C, the proclamation of greatest Speyside ever should deliver at least a 4 to even the harshest of critics
I hope you guys like it 🙄
@Generously_Paul. Yeah, the bonuses in our round 7 will be good. We got so far Kavalan Vinho Barrique, Lagavulin 2018 Feis Ile, and the @Joe_C Whisky of the Year ( linkwood -glenlivet?) . ( sorry, had to pull out the Bunna Moine 14 PX...none left in that little bottle) 😊
It has to be a special kind of bad to get a rating less than 2.5 from me. I just love scotch. The extras next round should be phenomenal 🤞🏻
@LeeEvolved I think though @Generously_Paul and @Telex are much more forgiving to the mediocre ones than you or I.
I wish I could say it’s going to get better, but just like @PBMichiganWolverine and @Generously_Paul has stated: they mostly look forward to the great extras we send with our tour stuff. Lots of mediocrity in those obscure distilleries... Keep putting in the work, though- it is entertaining for the readers haha.
