Color: The color is a light corn yellow, and this Canadian whisky has thin little legs that leave droplets on my glencairn glass.
Nose: The nose has a pretty simple bouquet of corn, caramel, and pancake syrup mixed with honey. Pretty sweet smelling to say the least.
Taste: The palate I am needing to work for in order to find anything worthy of mention. Honey sweetness maybe with a touch of cinnamon.
Finish: The finish is minimal to nonexistent except the fleeting sensation of Splenda sweetener leaving you with only a tingling mouthfeel. (Though as you wait and the mouthfeel goes away, an almost charcoal / bitter aftertaste appears at the back of your throat.)
Opinion: I learned that this brand is the second largest seller of Canadian whisky behind Crown Royal herself so I felt I should give it a try. I'm glad I did, but let's just say I'm glad I only invested in a 50ml sized bottle. It's not terrible, but it's not great. I'm willing to give the Black Velvet Reserve a try, the older brother of this dram, but this one didn't impress me. Sorry Black Velvet. Sláinte!

@LeeEvolved , Hahaha! That's hilarious!
@PBMichiganWolverine , I'll definitely check those out too! Thanks!
I remember when a guy brought a bottle of this to our local whiskey tasting. He didn’t stay long and wasn’t invited back lol
@MountainRoot JP Wisers is pretty good too—-esp their Legacy and Dissertation
@The_Rev , I am looking forward to trying all of those! I know Canada has a cool history with whisky and I'm sure there are beauties to be had up there! I am excited to fall in love with one and have a favorite Canadian whisky!
@MountainRoot There’s lots of great Canadian whisky out there! Forty Creek, Crown Royal NHR, Lot 40, Pike Creek...plenty of good things happening up north. Black Velvet, sadly, ain’t one of them.
@Generously_Paul and @The_Rev , yeah, though Canadian whisky isn't the most robust or memorable category, it has its place and there are definitely better options out there.
I’ve been tempted to try this before... think I’ll continue to pass
Black Velvet tastes like cash bar drinks at a low-budget wedding. Granted, I think that’s the limit of my exposure to it, but yeah...cheap fodder for mixed drinks.
