Bruichladdich The Organic 2009 Mid Coul Farms
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland

This was one of the standout surprises of the eight or nine whiskies I tried last night at a Bruichladdich event. There’s a floral, Pinot Gris note to the nose. The flavors mingle lemongrass and hay before turning creamy. The finish is long and peppery. A lovely summer’s dram, with a color to match a sunny day.

@PBMichiganWolverine Completely agree - I wasn’t able to grab this 2009 version but I picked up a 2010 bottle for the same price. It’s decent but not stellar. In whisky, I think ‘organic’ has more to do with the agriculture and soil health and supporting those farmers more than any taste/health benefits. I am a big fan of the Benromach Organic bottle and thought $72 was worth it
@Richard-ModernDrinking looking forward to that taste & review which will maybe give me a pointer. (I had a Port Charlotte before as well but I couldn’t get to liking it as well. That has been a while though and I am much more open to heavy peat by now.)
@SolanaRoots $82 is a bit much, probably bc of the organic classification. Would be interesting to compare to non-organic regular...wondering if distillation takes away any of the benefit from organic.
@Jan-Kaselitz Classic Laddie is ok but I generally prefer their peated stuff, ie Port Charlotte and Octomore. That said, I have the latest Laddie Bere Barley that I’m looking forward to opening as it had great reviews.
@Richard-ModernDrinking I had only the Classic Laddy before which I really didn't like. But reading a lot about this interesting distillery I want to give it another go. Did you have the Laddy before and if so, how does it compare to this one? Any other ideas on what Bruichladdich is worth tasting?
@SolanaRoots Put it on your birthday gift wish list. I'm not sure I would pay that much given all the options at that price point, but I'd sure be happy to receive one.
Nice review @Richard-ModernDrinking - been intrigued by this bottle. Worthy of acquiring at $82?
