George Dickel No. 8
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA

Appearance: The color, after looking into my glass, was a deep copper. The legs were thin and viscous.
Nose: On the nose I found notes of grains, caramel, vanilla, baked sourdough bread, and a nostalgic smell that reminded me of a bowl of Fruit Loops cereal after you ate it all and drank the milk. A splash of water brightened and sweetened the nose slightly, though it also made it less complex.
Taste: The palate had notes of cornbread, vanilla, baking spices and cinnamon. A splash of water makes it really boring, I don't recommend that.
Finish: The finish was pretty short. There was some heat going down even at 40% ABV. After adding a splash of water it took away the burn but like I said before, it made everything else boring.
Thoughts: It was fun to try a whiskey from the other big player in the Tennessee whiskey category, (Jack Daniel's being the other) however I'm not in love with this product. I'd happily drink this if it were given to me again. But buying a George Dickle product myself in the future, I'd look for the No.12 or the Barrel Select offerings. No.8 wasn't bad though, so George Dickle, thanks! Cheers!

Agree with @The_Rev and @BDanner Dickle 8 is a good mixer, 12 is the sipper. Both are superior to Jack 7, IMHO.
@Prof it is amazing that with the amount of whisky they are putting out (apparently they are sourcing bourbon for a lot of folks now including Costco) that they have managed to maintain that "quaint atmosphere". I've never been, but understand that there is limited computerization and most of the work is done the old fashioned way. I hope to get by there someday.
@The_Rev is correct about the tour. We did it and JD the same day and while JD is much bigger, Dickel is a nicer visit. We also hit nearby Prichard’s and TennSouth, as well.
@The_Rev & @BDanner Wow! That's really good to know! I'm looking forward even more so now to trying the other Dickle whiskies! Thanks for the input, gents!
@The_Rev ...agree 100% with your assessment. The 12 is one of my favorite under $30 whiskies period, and the Barrel Select is excellent as well.
Good review! The No 12 is a HUGE step up from the 8, and the Barrel Select is one of my absolute favorites period. The distillery makes for a fun visit, too; we stopped by there on a road trip last summer and enjoyed it.
