Kilchoman Sauternes Cask Finish (2018 Edition)

With the exception of the 2018 Port Cask, Kilchoman has generally been either a “good” to “damn good” across all their lines. This one is no exception. Instead of a full maturation in sweet dessert Sauternes, it’s just 5 months above it’s 5 year age. Aroma is sweet smoke embers, palette follows closely of smoke and white petit grapes. Lingering smoky sweet finish. My pour sat out for an entire 1 hour through my business dinner, and it simply got better as the minutes went by. What started out as hot and sweet fiery slowly faded throughout the hour into smoky sweet. This is simply excellent. Kilchoman: you more than made up for that Port Cask screw up.

@Soba45 personally I liked the Sauternes better, but over time, I didn’t see any noticeable difference. My time was limited to a few months though
@PBMichiganWolverine Also how have you found the bottles of the STR and Sauternes to hold up over time?
Ok I finally cracked. Having heard you mention it as your 2nd favorite Kilchoman and only one place in NZ with a couple of bottles left I pulled the trigger. Also the STR. Did you have another try of the STR after the brief tasting when you poured the samples for LeeE etc? If so did your rating change?
Big fan of Kilchoman, especially Loch Gorm and Machir Bay, so looking fwd to trying this one
@Richard-ModernDrinking Loch Gorm is my favourite Kilchoman along with Sanaig. The official ratings here vary widely, but in my experience its been consistently very good.
@PBMichiganWolverine I’ve never had a Kilchoman that excited me. Maybe the bottle of Loch Gorm I have waiting to open will deliver.
@Scott_E yeah, I was surprised by the 80 in here as well. Individual tastes.
"@PBMichiganWolverine The two reviews (by stars) is quite the contrary to the @Distiller review. Very interesting. I am now very curious about this one. I agree with you that Kilchoman’s stuff is good or damn good."
