Glen Scotia 15 Year

Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland

Okay, about halfway through the bottle so time for the review. I have to confess that I have been absolutely chomping at the bit to post this review. This is to date one of the finest scotches I have ever had. Coming from Southern Louisana I am a fan of bold, savory, salty, and spicy foods. One of my favorite local delicacies are raw oysters. The briny taste is spectacular. I’ve had briny Islays, notably Talisker that are very enjoyable. This however takes briny to another level. You can actually smell salt on the nose. But, that’s not all, you also get a syrupy molasses on the nose. And in the background on the nose you can even find faint orchard fruits...I want to say apple, and some barrel spice. On the palate, there is a thick viscous explosion of salt/brine, with waves of spice and a background of sweet orchard fruits. Medium to long finish. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. And now, another sip......

@deuce26 Great review - really nailed it. Springbank ... *ahem* (waits for chorus of angels to quieten down). You have an epiphany in your future. Start with the 10 year old, or with the 12 year old Kilkerran by Glengyle distillery (different distillery, but run by the Springbank people). Either whisky will be a revelation. Springbank is a brawny and assertive malt - not hard to drink, but quite individual. Not everyone likes it, but most single-malt enthusiasts do. Have fun!

Thanks @SolanaRoots @PBMichiganWolverine @The_Rev. Please let me know how this compares to Springbank and is there another Campbeltown scotch I should be trying? I have heard there are only 3 ish distilleries. And I grabbed this because it was better priced than Springbank. But, it’s hard to believe Springbank can be better than this?

Great review, and agreed - this is good stuff. I haven't found a less-than-great Glen Scotia yet.

@deuce26 great review. Totally agree—-loved this one as well. Cambeltown may be becoming the new Islay...they’re all putting out great stuff

Great review @deuce26 - the Campbeltown whiskies are right up my alley too...Springbank 10 & Kilkerran 12 are probably in my top 5. Need to move this Glen Scotia up the queue in my to acquire list
