Damn good, ....damn damn good stuff. Go ahead and be a fan boy of the atypical hard to find single malt stuff and let this one fly by- but wow- every time I pour a glass of JW 18 I’m just so impressed at the mature and delicious flavor profile- and the smoothness is like no other. This whiskey is nicely priced, and nicely done- and as a side note it has one off the coolest bottle designs in the business.

OOPS! Sorry guys, I had a brain burp. Girvan is a William Grant holding. Diagio owns Cameronbridge and has a part share in North British, so they would be the grain whiskies in most of their blends. They also own Cambus, which was mothballed in 1993 but there are still some stocks of old Cambus grain that are used in some of the Blue Label special releases.
I need to give the green another ... green light 🥴. It’s been a while. I think the benefit and danger of this blend is that I can pour it neat, and boom it’s ready to enjoy as fast or slow as I want without burn, overstimulation, or frankly having to think about it too much at all- clean drinking. I’ll have to look into girvan- or... maybe not: maybe ignorance is bliss 🥰. Pbmich- I agree, I’ll take most JW blends over blue - the blue is just too damn gnarly for me, it tastes like I’m drinking some sort of forgotten moth ball Ladened bottle whiskey of my grandfathers that’s been gathering dust in his basement for 20 years - and not in a good way.
@cascode Everytime I hear Girvan, gives me a slight twitch. Only other name that has the same psychosomatic response is Abhainn Barf 🤮 (Dearg)
@PBMichiganWolverine Indeed - as the only blended malt in the lineup it has immediate points in its favour. The 18 has a nice honey character, but like every JW blended scotch it's handicapped by Girvan grain.
@cascode @deuce26 I think the benefit Green has over this is that it’s only from 4 distilleries, all malt no grain. And Talisker is one of them.
@AntonioSchmid Yes, Jim Beveridge (and what a great name for a master blender it is!) stated publicly when this was being released that it is exactly the same recipe as the old Platinum 18 year blend. I don't know why they decided to rebrand but it was probably something to do with the downgrade of the old Gold Label blend. It used to be an 18 year old as well once, just with a different character to the Platinum 18. Then they changed the blend and made it Gold Reserve with no age statement, and shortly afterwards Platinum 18 became just "18 Year". @Evilbiochemist Yes, it is damn good stuff. My second favourite JW after Green Label.
@PBMichiganWolverine I like both green and blue a lot. Unfortunately ($$) I like the blue better.
@deuce26 personally, and I know it’s blasphemy, but I liked the Green over Blue as well
@AntonioSchmid i think it is—the Details portion here states it’s just the 18, made prettier
@PBMichiganWolverine I really love the green too. This would have to be damn good to top the green.
Can anyone confirm if this is really the exact same juice of Platinum Label, just rebranded?
Liked it over the Green? I liked the Green, and loved their price even more ($60)
