Quick Hit Tasting Notes
Local liquor store had a Dalmore tasting. In non-optimal conditions, took some notes:
N: Vanilla custard, honey, grapes, sweet, raisins, Italian Strufoli.
P: Short, needing more, glimpse, diluted brown sugar, cinnamon.
F: Woody , cinnamon, orange rind.
Beautiful nose. Palate is watery thin. Almost no finish. I want more flavor, especially if paying $250+

@ContemplativeFox yeah, a few years ago. I left disappointed in Dalmore overall in terms of price per value ratio.
Dang, a free Dalmore tasting?
@Scott_E I find a lot of good whiskies don't these days, many are way overpriced. You can still get a few distilleries who generally represent good value for money. Glendronach and Springbank come to mind for a large portion of their standard offerings
@Soba45 I did a tasting of the 18 that night and I do have a 2 ounce sample of the 18 which is why I didn’t add those notes (better tasting conditions). I did think the 18 was the best of the samples. Again, however, does the price warrant the reward? To each his own.
I liked the cigar malt, it went downhill from there though. I still have a sample of this to try which sadly doesn't look like it'll blow me away but hopefully the 18 year lives up to the rep.
@Scott_E Agreed. If you've tasted one, you've tasted them all - but that's just my palate - the distillery profile and maturation/blend strategy of Dalmorejust doesn't do anything for me.
@Whiskey_Hound Simply, yes. What one pays for Dalmore is not what one gets back from Dalmore. I like the 12 for the price of $59 locally. Anything else, in my opinion, is not worth it, unless you prefer the nose over the palate.
@Scott_E looking out your reviews, it's safe to say you're not impressed with what Dalmore is putting out
"Beautiful nose, palate is watery thin, almost no finish." Yup, sounds like a Dalmore to me.
@PBMichiganWolverine it was free, however. That was optimal.
@PBMichiganWolverine It was limited seating in a cramp space using a brandy snifter instead of glen cairn with short time constraints.
@Scott_E “ non optimal conditions”. Like everyday? 😊
