Tomatin 12 Year Bourbon & Sherry Casks
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland

Appearance: Looking into this little highlander I find the color of light clover honey. The dram’s legs are medium thickness and watery.
Nose: The nose starts off with notes of salted caramel, then moves into notes of wildflower, light incense smoke, red wine, apples, and dry grass.
Taste: The palate I didn't find as bold as the nose. Red apple, apricot, buttered sweet corn, and cocoa powder were the notes that I found.
Finish: The medium finish leaves a semi-oily mouthfeel along with a bitter then minty aftertaste.
Thoughts: This highland single malt was a delightful dram. It wasn't very complicated but it was very friendly! This would be an excellent starter scotch to anyone new to the game! It's a tad boring to those who have much experience however. My vote - I would recommend it, but I probably won't buy it again for myself. I bought this one in a small sample trio, and I am excited to try this scotch’s older siblings! Tomatin, thank you very much! Sláinte!

It’s solid. I really like what Tomatin has been doing.
@The_Rev - they get released in batches and I’m sure they change a bit from one to the next, but I’ve had 2 bottles now and both were quality stuff. I did drink a bottle of the Virgin Oak Cu Bocan and you being a bigger bourbon fan it may suit your taste more. It was also about the same price, IIRC. I’d say start there, then maybe after that try the newest release. Then, once you’re hooked like me, you can start looking at older vintage bottles that are commanding a bit more money when you find them. Cheers.
@LeeEvolved - I still need to check them out...any particular Cu Bocan standouts?
@The_Rev - and I will never stop extolling about the Cu Bocan series, either. They are fantastic, NAS whiskies. I’ve had a bottle of the discontinued 15 year sitting on the bar for some time now- I keep wondering whether or not I should open it.
@The_Rev & @Generously_Paul Thanks for the recommendations! I am looking forward to trying them sometime soon!
@Generously_Paul speaks the truth; Tomatin 14 year old is really good stuff, and at a pretty good price. If you happen across any of their Cuatro series bottlings, or the now-defunct 15 Year, they're also great.
You should look out for the 14 year old port finish. Great stuff and not lacking in flavor.
