I love our monthly date nights. Yes,the babysitter is more expensive than the meal and movie, but the experience of having a quiet dinner is priceless. Ya’ll know what I’m talking about, all of you with kids. Tonight was Mexican. The waitress recommended this to go along with the mole dish, and generally I’m always skeptical of waitress / waiter recommendations; I always think they’re recommending something that’s higher priced or that they need to push out. This time, I’m glad I took my chances. I’m not a fan of the nose, it’s a very sage like quality. But the palette comes alive with minty grassy notes, with a sweet nutty backbone. Paired with the mole sauce, it really comes through highlighting the spices in it. An excellent sipping tequila that makes a scotch drinker like me take pause and appreciate it.

@worldwhiskies95 that sounds interesting. I think I actually have that one, the smaller bottle.
@PBMichiganWolverine Tears of Llorona is aged in scotch, sherry, and cognac casks
@worldwhiskies95 it sounds like it might be too sweet, but I think I’ll try a pour just for experience. I saw it at the Denver airport...I’m back there in a few weeks, so might as well check it out. Meanwhile—the sherry finished tequilas seem more up my alley and might actually buy a bottle
@PBMichiganWolverine Clase Azul might be too sweet for you. It could be u liked finished or unique cask tequilas more than non finished because of the flavors imparted by sherry casks u find familiar in sherry cask whiskies.
@deuce26 I have not—-I’ve seen it priced quite high, and was always skeptical of pulling the trigger since I don’t know much about tequila ( or for that matter any drink outside red wine or scotch)
@PBMichiganWolverine have you tried the Clase Azul Anejo or Reposado? It totally changed my opinion of Tequila. Some of the best overall spirits I have ever had!
@Scott_E I think today is in the books for the Pats. Hopefully another outcome next week with Mahomes. And if not them...the Rams or Saints. ( yeah...not giving Philly much of a chance against Saints.). I’m more a scotch person, but once in a blue moon I don’t mind mezcal or tequila—just a change of pace. Generally I’m still sticking to 1-2 dram/ week though
@PBMichiganWolverine sadly it’s 35-7 Pats and it’s only halftime. My kids are older and been working hard to pay for the college tuition. The end is in sight though and ultimately the wife and I will look to do our worldly traveling that we put on hold for now. As far as tequila, I am lost, though somewhat interested. Patron I am acutely aware of and I know now that a quality tequila makes the margarita. What I am trying to say is reading your reviews on tequila and mezcal provides me with a cheat sheet. As always, a fun and personally relatable review.
@PBMichiganWolverine with another St Nick Miracle to boot. It would then be a special dram night!
@dubz480 now...if we can see Pats go down today. If not today, then hopefully next week with Mahomes and company
@The_Rev the price seems high on this though—-just looked it up. Was $150 or so
@PBMichiganWolverine watching the Cowboys lose immensely improved the taste! 🤣
This sounds absolutely intriguing; I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I've been shy about revisiting agave-based spirits after lots of...memorable times spent with friends and cheapo Cuervo Gold in college. This might be a decent way to dip my toe back in those waters. And we're hopefully getting our first night away from the toddler in a long time here in a few weeks...practically counting the days.
@cascode neither have I, but I’m finding these finishes tequilas better than the normal non-finished
@Generously_Paul on the down side...we saw Aquaman. That’s two hours I’ll never get back. Should’ve instead have seen the Cowboys getting beat.
@PBMichiganWolverine Sounds enticing - must add this to the wishlist. I've not had any new tequila or mezcal for a while now, and the weather is perfect here at the moment.
Oh yes, my kids are around the same age as yours I believe and we rarely get time away from them, at least as a couple that is. Enjoy your nights out to the max!
Definitely know what you mean about kid free time. We were slack in '18 on that front so this year will try to do better!
