Taken from the centre-cut or middle sections of the famous Warehouse H. the world’s first single barrel bourbon. Blanton’s Original set the standard for single barrel bourbons in 1984. Best served neat or on the rocks. Bottled at 46.5% alcohol by volume. Nose – Vanilla - with caramel and butterscotch, with spices such as clove, nutmeg, or cinnamon Taste – Sweet - Citrus and Oak (credit to published reviews - on which I built mine)

@Scott_E yes the Groth was from Lee, and yes it was delicious

@PBMichiganWolverine could be. Either way, it was quite good.

@Scott_E I think that was from @LeeEvolved. Only reason I remember is b/c I thought the Groth reserve was marketed towards goth subculture...was during my not so bright moments

@PBMichiganWolverine yes. It was one of the best bourbons I have tasted. The other I still remember as great was Jefferson Groth from @Generously_Paul

@Scott_E did you ever get around to trying the 2016 FR LESB i sent during our SDT? That was simply amazing

@PBMichiganWolverine Four Roses for me. It just clicks with me.

@dubz480 @Scott_E between a Blanton’sSFTB, Four Roses LESB, and EC Barrel proof, which would you go with? If price isn’t a factor, I’d say 4R LESB. Otherwise Blantons SFTB

@Scott_E agree 100%. Solid stuff but not worth the inflated cost. EH Taylor SB for $39 is better IMO. That has become my Blanton's alternative from BT. But every now and then I do still enjoy it and do keep a bottle on hand.

@arcarey @PBMichiganWolverine @dubz480 My brother in law was collecting them. He needed a B. Not sure if he attained it. That being said, this is a good whiskey but a now $60+ a bottle, I don’t think so. I remember when this was on price par with Four Roses Single barrel in the $45 range. I would still choose 4R over this all things being equal.

@PBMichiganWolverine, @dubz480 Just been onto the Blanton’s website “The horse and jockey on the bottle stoppers are now a recognized trademark of Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon. The rich heritage and tradition of horses in Kentucky parallel that of bourbon. Beginning in 1999 a collector's edition set of eight different stoppers was produced. The set features a horse and jockey in different strides and poses resembling the stages of a horse race. Each stopper is marked with a single letter that spells Blanton's when the set has been completed”. And what’s worse - you can buy the set of eight for $40. As you say - that’s a pity as I too though they were famous horses.

@PBMichiganWolverine LOL! Exactly! I gave up even checking anymore! Just pick another one up when I am down to 1 in reserve. They are in a junk drawer somewhere!

@dubz480 seriously? I was expecting something more profound...like each horse made in depiction of a Derby winner. But no...instead it’s like cereal box surprise for adults

@arcarey @PBMichiganWolverine each Blanton's horse has a letter on the bottom right-hand side. The goal is to collect all the letters to spell Blanton's! Has nothing to do with the brands. They sell cool display kits in line to show all of them if that's something you like. I myself have BLATS! so still 3 short. I keep getting As!

@PBMichiganWolverine I’ve just read the expert review on the Blanton’s single barrel - they note that there are 8 different caps depicting 8 different poses in a horse race. So can’t be one for every type of Blanton’s They say that they are sought as a collectible. Will start to save them 👍

@arcarey no idea—-but now I’m curious. I know it was meant as the go-to bourbon for the Kentucky Derby ( or is that Maker’s Mark?)

@PBMichiganWolverine Yup have a bottle of each of the three (see taste reviews) - this one is my least favorite - but that’s being picky as they are all very good. The Gold to me is slightly the best) Do you know - are the horses on the corks chosen per brand - seems to be a lot more horses than the three.

@arcarey did you ever try the Blanton SFTB (straight from the barrel) or Gold? I’ve not had the Gold, but the SFTB is amazing...level of BTAC amazing
