Blended — Ireland

A shamrock stamped on your passport as you enter a place nicknamed "The Emerald Isle"; a population that joyously celebrates St. Patrick's Day as a national holiday; an island with a beautiful rugged coastline .... in the Caribbean.
Montserrat. That's what comes to mind with this rum-finished Irish whiskey.
The nose is somewhat faint with cereal, honey, floral, apple/pear notes showing through, with some treacle too. Cereal is repeated on the palate, with some strong sugar sweetness and baking spice on arrival. It develops more to tea and oak at the end, and has a medium-long, dry finish of tea and citrus rind. Altogether a very solid dram, and probably my favourite rum finished whiskey over others that I recall tasting, such as The Balvenie Caribbean Cask and Tullamore D.E.W. XO Caribbean Rum finish.
Enough scribbling. Back to my daydream of a pasty white Irishman lounging and sipping by the white sand of a Caribbean beach.

Thanks @Soba45 @dubz480 Happy to be the loud bore in the room :)
Good review and history lesson :-)
@1901 great background and history lesson! I need to read up on this and educate myself.
BTW to continue the dry history lesson in case anyone is interested ("anyone, anyone"), from a radio documentary I listened to I know the Montserratians are mostly of African-Irish descent and feel a strong association with the Irish. The Irish who settled there (starting from the 17th century) were a mix of exiles from a conquered Ireland, indentured servants, and also some plantation owners. There was a tendency in Ireland to paint a picture of benign plantation owners living in harmony with African slaves, but more recently a different truth has been shown. St. Patrick's Day is not celebrated as a national holiday in solidarity with the Irish; it is more to commemorate a slave rebellion on that date.
@Scott_E yes for sure. 46% and non-chill filtered too
@dubz480 if you like it on the sweeter end, might be right up your alley.
@dubz480 @1901 This is a decent Irish whiskey and at a fair price. With that, it’s backed with some punch, at 46% I believe.
@dubz480 I'm not a particular fan of fum-finished but this is quite well done I think
Ah never realized it was finished in ex rum Casks. will have to get pour now for sure. I do enjoy rum finishing in Rye and Bourbon so I am sure it works well with Irish whiskey as well.
