Because everyone says this is so good, and because it has celebrity endorsements and shows up in pop culture a fair amount, I went in not wanting to like the Laga 16. I didn’t want to like it because it is chill filtered and colouring is added and also because I thought that it would be a mediocre malt that relied on its recognizable name, a la Macallan. But, it is so damn good. I sniffed it for a good half hour before even digging in. Smelled of smoked maple bacon cooked perfectly. It enters softly on my palate, then sweet, then a bite of peat. Finish is medium length and is leather, peat smoke, and some dried stone fruit. F it! I don’t care if it’s chill filtered and has some E150 added; it’s solid! One of my favourites and a classic that I can go back to without getting bored.
