Chichibu single sherry cask for Velier

There’s a few times in life you would have an opportunity to watch a grown man cry. One such opportunity would be when an otherwise relatively intelligent man does a dumbass idiotic move like trying to carry a bottle of expensive single cask fully sherry matured Japanese whiskey to his car, just so he can take it to his storage unit, as it just so happens his wife will kick him out if she sees another whiskey bottle at home. It’s relatively benign carrying a bottle to your car’s trunk. Except when it’s a snowing outside and your drive way is iced and slippery. All I can say is, out of the 1/2 ounce or so that I managed to save from the broken bottle, this is an ABSOLUTE stunner of a whiskey. A single cask sherry Chichubu, made for a Parisian wine company. Single cask Chichibu are now rare as hen’s teeth and prices range well upwards of $700+. As I lay there in the snow, holding a broken bottle, I figured now is a good time as any to maybe taste this. An involuntary pour. Can’t say much about the nose, since I was sitting there in shock for a good hour and my nose froze in the cold, but the taste is amazing. Thick viscous and meaty. Cherries and plum. Closest I can think of is a Yamazaki 18, but far better. Anise, allspice and some cardamom. There’s a lesson in this kids: drink your good stuff now, because let’s face it...your brain cells are dying as you get older and you’re most likely going to fall on ice while carrying that expensive whiskey.

@Soba45 I think that mixing whiskey with soda must run in the genes. I did that to my very first whisky ( a Macallan, at age 18)
@PBMichiganWolverine yup. Already plenty of whisky bottles awaiting me in my hotel! 😂
@PBMichiganWolverine Whaat..I'd be livid if family screwed me over like that. They probably thought rich old uncle PBM is drowning in whiskey he'll most likely not miss several. :-)
@PBMichiganWolverine That’s London students for you. At least they’re drinking whisky. My son came back from London with a bottle of vodka. I’m so ashamed.
@Richard-ModernDrinking dude...it’s not been my month with whiskey so far. Did I tell you about my entire GoT collection? I asked my niece, who’s in college in London, to take my GoT when she was going back post-holidays. I wanted her to ship it from London to sell it on auction. I then found out that TWE and a bunch others were having the collection as well for sale, so I asked her to hold off, thinking i’ll Strategically time the shipping. Instead, a few weeks later, she and her buddies drink my entire collection. To add salt to the wound, she posts pictures of mixing those with soda, on Instagram.
Nooo! This is why family members need to move to the storage locker to make room for the whisky.
where did u buy this bottle?
@AntonioSchmid by the way—are you still planning Orlando in March? My business trip got canceled...instead will be in Denver.
@GeologyJack I have gut rot wine... does that count? The type you buy in gallons in the paper box.
"Sorry for your loss... 😱😢 It just happened that I also broke (for the first time) a whole bottle of whisky last week. Nowhere near your loss though. It was “just” a Cairdeas 2017. But man, it sucks..."
That would never had happened if you had been carrying a bottle of rot gut whiskey. But the I seriously doubt that you have any rot gut whiskey. My condolences.
@1901 and dirty NJ snow...that’s gotta add a whole new flavor profile
@Evilbiochemist if this works...I’m sending you your commission of 15% of the bottle! 😊
@Rick_M amen. And lesson learned!
@PBMichiganWolverine I feel the waves of sadness from the other side of the planet. Commissions. At least you didn’t damage yourself. I’d recommend cracking open a bottle of something rare and wonderful to salute the lost soldier.
@PBMichiganWolverine Vaguely remember. I wish I could forget the Girvan.
"Tasting notes: sharp, viscous and a tangy metallic taste not unlike blood." Bad luck. :o(
@PBMichiganWolverine - it’s a bad day for the Distiller crew. Earlier today I backed my rental car into a pole supporting the canopy I was parked under destroying the Driver door and rear view mirror. My deductible is $500 so it was an expensive mistake. The good news is, as I sit here LMAO, I am sitting here enjoying a good light and a triple Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve. Shit happens and I can afford it and so can you, so be thankful your family was spared and you live to drink another day. :)
Dear business representatives at Chichibu, here in the helm of the online whiskey community we have recently witnessed a most unfortunate event- leaving many of us shook and perhaps even emotionally distraught. It would be in the best interest of all readers on this forum to see it fit that you send this popular, and ..heavily invested representative of the spirits community another bottle of your fine whisky. Thank you in advance for your understanding, compliance, translation, warmth and generosity in this matter - your kind reparations won’t go unnoticed. Sincerely, Evil.
@Scott_E this is the second bottle I broke. Not sure if you remember, but in round 1 of the SDT, I listed a Macallan Sienna as the bonus offer. I broke that while carrying 5 bottles at the same time. Sure..the Girvan survived, but the Macallan broke
@PBMichiganWolverine “Oh, the humanity...”. The positive outlook is you did get to at least taste it. So sorry to hear.
@Soba45 @BDanner the irony is then my wife comes up to me and says “ can’t you just run to the local wine place and buy another? I’m sure they have a few laying around “
Ah no that's terrible. I'd be gutted! But then again at least you got to try it... if it remained a whole bottle and price kept climbing I guess you may never have done so. Silver linings and all :-)
Is it bad that I misted up while reading this?
