Oh there was so much potential here. I was hoping anything finished in “Grand Cru” was worthy of at least 4 stars. The word Grand simply implies larger than ordinary. But sadly this one here is anything but Grand. This Jura is 18 years old, with some years spent finishing in French Grand Cru wine barrels. Grand Cru, as the name implies is one of the best standards for French Bordeux red wine, only to be superceded by Premier Grand Cru. Hopefully that translates to a better finishing for the whisky. But..alas, I’m proven wrong, at least for this one.
The nose starts off really well. You get a salinity, briny aroma with some heft from the wine. The taste unfortunately takes a dive. It’s really rough, the wine’s weight fighting against the Islander’s saline. It’s a tug of war, that finally goes to the saline part, but it’s a Pyrrhic victory at best. Keeping in line with other Juras I’ve had, it’s just not worth the pour. Nothing to see here. Move on.

@PBMichiganWolverine a small group with money and persistence.
@PBMichiganWolverine Haha good call. You may want to order two diet pepsi's for your collection :-)
@Generously_Paul you should just do it and make shelf space for others more deserving. Like even Diet Pepsi.
I’ve got a bottle of the TRE Turas-Mara that I’m now hesitant to open because of all the Jura slamming lately.
@Scott_E it has to be a small group of eclectic loyal fans.
@PBMichiganWolverine I was thinking the same. How the hell are they staying aloft? Not an easy find, generally, and not seemingly tasty.
@Soba45 I have the Jura 22 One for the Road and Jura 2016 Tastival...really hoping those are better
@Whiskey_Hound one part of me thinks there has to be a fan base, else how is it still in business. Maybe a small eclectic fan base
Good to see you haven't given up hope though :-). I gave up a long time ago on Jura, unless someone mistakenly pours me a dram or you lot on distiller all start raving about a rare Jura miracle which is a must try not a drop will be passing my lips ever again!
Nice review. I hate to say it, but of all of the distilleries I have yet to try, Jura may be the one of which I have the lowest expectations. This based on the collective reviews of some of my favorite reviewers on the site. Which is a damn shame, because I've yet to find an Island-based distillery that was anything less than superb. Of course, I'll go in with an open mind, but it's hard to ignore these disappointed reviews
