Lagavulin 9 Year (Game of Thrones-House Lannister)

Info: l'une des 8 bouteilles du release de Game Of Thrones de 2018 (une neuvième pour le nightwatch par JW). L'une des deux seules bouteilles non-NAS (avec le Royal Lochnagar 12) et le deuxieme plus cher du lot (120 CAD ici en SAQ). Cette bouteille représente la Maison Lannister (chacune en représente une différente). Un des repproche que l'on voit souvent sur les réseau sociaux et les forums est qu'ils ont "miss-matched" les différentes maisons avec les distilleries (ex: Targaryen-feu-sherry vs un Cardhu weak... ça fit pas pentoute). Au delà du marketing, il s'agit d'un produit 100% de l'ile d'Islay vieilli en ex-fut de bourbon et dont on a ajouté du colorant. Nez: sucré. Fumé et sucré. Caramel fumé. viandeux. du jambon foret-noir saucé dans le syrop. Une touche médicinale qui rappelle Laphroaig... étrange. légèrement iodé. Maritime. Sel de mer apporté par une brise fraiche. Bouche: Rien qui était au nez que l'on ne retrouve pas en bouche: Jambon fumé-syrop/caramel et sel iodé. Le tout ensemble rappelle de la sauce BBQ. Plus loin, on retrouve un côté fruité... des ananas, des bananes et du jus de citron fraichement pressé. C'est jeune comme liquide mais, la texture est belle. Final: Longue. Fumé-boisé sur le chêne les bananes et une touche d'algue amer et salé. Après quelque seconde que le liquide a passé, quelque chose de frais... des herbes... de la coriandre. Overall: C'est doux. Grand publique mais tourbé à la Lagavulin. Quelqu'un qui n'aime pas la tourbe ne changera probablement pas d'idée après celui-là. Quelqu'un qui aime déjà Lagavulin sera probablement déçu pour la simple raison qu'il s'agit d'une version inférieur du 16 ans qui est le même prix. Inutile de dire que le rapport qualité-prix n'est pas au rendez-vous. L'absence de finish en fut de sherry fait en sorte que le champs aromatique se rapproche plus du Lagav 12 que du 16. Imaginez-vous une version du 12 ans de 2016 plus jeune de 3 ans et dilué à 46%. Bref, rien de mauvais mais, je n'ai pas été jeté par terre par cette édition. Amateurs avancés, vous pouvez passer sans regret. Amateur débutant, probable que vous ne soyez pas enchanté non plus. C'est plus une bouteille de soirée facile à boire qu'une bouteille à décortiqué de façon concentré... tsé quand tu veux pas amener du stock que tu trip trop de peur que ça s'envole trop vite mais que tu veux quand même boire quelque chose qui fait du sens... et bien, c'est ce genre de bouteille. Un peu ce que le An Oa est à Ardbeg, le lagavulin 9 est une bonne bouteille mais la moins impressionnante de la gamme. 86%

    @LeeEvolved , @PBMichiganWolverine - place in Boston area that has 8yo on sale for $33.99 from $63.99. Is that possible? Unfortunately, I have one in stock and it’s not my favorite.

    @LeeEvolved totally agree. Out of the GoT bunch, this was the highlight. But it still wasn’t up there with the 8, or any of their core ranges

    @Rick_M - “advanced amateur” is a term I associate myself with and I also wasn’t as in love with this malt like most reviewers seem to be. I’d take the 8yo over the GoT bottle everytime.

    Translation: Info: one of the 8 bottles of the Game Of Thrones release of 2018 (a ninth for the nightwatch by JW). One of only two non-NAS bottles (with the Royal Lochnagar 12) and the second most expensive of the lot (120 CAD here in SAQ). This bottle represents the Lannister House (each represents a different one). One of the approaches that we often see on social networks and forums is that they have "miss-matched" the different houses with the distilleries (ex: Targaryen-feu-sherry vs a Cardhu weak ... that did not fit pentoute). Beyond marketing, it is a product 100% Islay Island aged ex-bourbon and dye was added. Nose: sweet. Smoked and sweet. Smoked caramel. meaty. black and sautéed ham in the syrup. A medicinal touch reminiscent of Laphroaig ... strange. slightly iodized. Maritime. Sea salt brought by a cool breeze. Palate: Nothing on the nose that is not found in the mouth: smoked ham-syrup / caramel and iodized salt. All together is reminiscent of BBQ sauce. Further, we find a fruity side ... pineapples, bananas and lemon juice freshly squeezed. It is young as liquid but, the texture is beautiful. Final: Long. Smoked-wooded oak bananas and a touch of bitter and salty algae. After a few seconds the liquid has passed, something fresh ... herbs ... coriander. Overall: It's sweet. Large public but peaty at Lagavulin. Someone who does not like peat will probably not change their mind after that one. Someone who already loves Lagavulin will probably be disappointed for the simple reason that it is a lower version of the 16 year old which is the same price. Needless to say, the value for money is not at the rendezvous. The lack of finish in sherry was that the aromatic field is closer to the Lagav 12 than 16. Imagine a version of the 12 years of 2016 younger than 3 years and diluted to 46%. In short, nothing bad but, I was not thrown to the ground by this edition. Advanced amateurs, you can pass without regret. Amateur beginner, likely that you are not delighted either. It's more an easy-drinking bottle of evening than a shelled bottle in a concentrated way ... when you do not want to bring stock that you're too worried about it soaring too fast but you still want it drink something that makes sense ... well, that's that kind of bottle. Just what the An Oa is in Ardbeg, the Lagavulin 9 is a good bottle but the least impressive of the range. 86% "
