Ah Tullimore Dew might not not have been my first but it was my staple living in Ireland and one of the drops that made me think hey whiskey isn't to bad. I didn't drink it straight that was another decade before I went down that path. I used to take a hip flask into the pub get a pint of water and drop a dram or two in. Yeah I know cheap but hey mid 20s and very little money was my excuse. Also drinking that much water helped stave off hangovers.... the oddities of youth. Anyhow I saw this and the 18 yr samples and thought ah for nostalgia...not that I drank the aged statements. Mine was the bog std stuff. I like this, brown sugar green apples. Usually I don't like the latter but with the oily spiciness it pulls it off. I'd poured this dram b4 I realised the stir fry had ginger and garlic.. usually a match I stay away from but the dram pulled through and maybe it even complimented or perhaps diminished the components I might not usually like...or maybe its the psychology of nostalgia..

@PBMichiganWolverine Yes a two for one, tasty, tasty little kiwi..haha. @Rick_M Yeah maybe abstract wasn't the right word but to be honest I removed the original and then realized I no longer had it saved so had to replace with something new googled kiwi something or other and that popped up a viola! Now having harder look I'm not sure what it is meant to represent, tastiness, split personality, brokenness...anyway enough about me..haha!
@soba45 - If you just think the new avatar is cool, then it’s up to us to figure out what that says about you. No easy task for someone that describes himself as a Japanese noodle. :)
@Generously_Paul - Rolling your eyes that far is just probably part of your way to nose whisky to a deeper level. Hahaha
@LeeEvolved I just rolled my eyes so hard I saw my brain 🧠
@Soba45 - I welcome the change to the avatar. @Generously_Paul started it all a few weeks ago when he changed his while bragging about his skill as a taster. He’s so good he can nose two whiskies at the same time and decipher all the notes. He’s the Neil deGrasse Tyson to my Bill Nye, the science guy.
@Soba45 - abstraction is a product of the subconscious mind. The new bird is an allegory if it is symbolic of something. So which is it?
@Soba45 is that a sliced up Kiwi bird that looks like a kiwi fruit? That poor bird.
@cascode Haha :-) Lee's change inspired me to mix it up.. it's been pretty static for the first 597 tastes..a however many years. I must be getting old as abstract art was never my thing once upon a time :-)
@Soba45 - WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO YOUR AVATAR!!!! That's just ... unnatural, bro!
@1901 Cheers :-). Ah the 12 year reserve wasn't one I came across. Will have to keep an eye out. Yes your definitely right there although I'd say the rest of my mates definitely made up for my cheapness!
@Rick_M Born in NZ but lived a few years in Dublin. Had citizenship through grandparents and have a lot of relatives still there, uncles and cousins etc. Great times :-)
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah definitely a step up from the NAS. Hopefully the 18 takes things further!
Nice review. It’s a very decent malt, and I also like the 12yo special reserve. The pub owners in Ranelagh didn’t get rich on your coin 😀
@Soba45 - just visiting Ireland or born there?
I remember having this at a whisky show, Thought it was much better than their NAS versions. Liked it enough to contemplate buying a bottle
