Smells like a charred log soaked in a bog. Palate has a saltiness. Has a bitter finish with medicinal notes. I don’t love this. Adding water brings out a salty sweetness but overall this isn’t quite my thing. I know it’s a blasphemous thing to say but I might like the Select better. This is just too weird for me. It’s so astringent and tastes like bandaids.

@dubz480 I will try the triple wood. Thanks for the recommendation!
Give it some time it will grow on you.
@cascode has a far better Scotch pallette than I, however, even I disagree! It's a preplexing pour no doubt. I would suggest the triple wood if you want some variation, but overall it's a damn fine pour for the price. Cheers!
Blasphemous? Not at all. Select is a fine expression - John Campbell does not create inferior whisky.
Tastes are a funny thing. All the tasting notes you gave for disliking it, are the reasons I love it. I also like the Select more than most.
