After reading @LeeEvolved ‘s review of this, I simply had to open up the sample he graciously sent me. I should end this review with simply three words: Oh. My. God. But I’ll write a bit more. Light beach bonfire on the nose; followed by burnt wood, salinity, and charred lemons. I totally agree with Lee—-better than HP 18, or Talisker 18. Why the hell do we bother with other crap whiskey when a few of the classics such as this, Ardbeg 10, Springbank 10, and Lagavulin 16 suffice ? Quite simply—-it’s excellent, and at the price of <$100, a no brainer must buy. Thanks for this Lee!

@PBMichiganWolverine - just found it for $85 in my area. Thanks!
Sorry—-Dramtime.nl
@Rick_M Dreamtime.nl has a 10% sale—-comes out to be about $85USD. If you can combine with 2-3 other items, shipping is then justified
@Whiskey_Hound I love both of them ( Talisker and HP 18). But I’d personally put this Caol Ila first, followed by the Talisker, then HP. Could also be a function of the particular batch.
@PBMichiganWolverine Just out of curiosity, what's your opinion of Talisker 18? And HP 18 for that matter
@Rick_M - it was on sale at Whisky Exchange a couple of weeks ago for $84. I see it’s still in stock but the new exchange rate puts it at $98. I should’ve bought more back then but I was still placing orders out of The Netherlands and the new auction just went live. If I place another WE order in the next few weeks I’ll probably try to grab another bottle or two then.
@LeeEvolved @PBMichiganWolverine - all the prices I see are over $100 for this, which is still about right for a good 18yo.
To say this one shocked me would be a massive understatement. I was taken the minute I put my nose into the glass. The fruitiness really makes this dram. I only hope the newer releases of this maintained the excellence from the 2008 batch- which will be hard to do, I know. I’m glad my other bottle is also from 2008. Whisky Exchange still has bottles for under $100 and I’m tempted to buy a few more.
