Single Malt — Islay, Scotland

Sweet Ardbeg smoke. Given my prejudice against rum I was delighted that I couldn't pick up a hint of it anywhere. As with most of these committee releases, they've been enjoyable but the price creep keeps me from buying a bottle; I'm happier getting ~3 of the 10.

@doneeb If it’s the molasses sweetness that you dislike about rum then yes, I’d second that recommendation for anything by Caromi. Also, if you’ve never tried it a taste of a rhum agricole might be interesting. Some can be a little plain white sugar sweet, and all have a grassy chlorophyll note to some degree, but get a good one and you’ll have an irresistible impression of French colonial planters tasting molasses-based English style rum and thinking “oh dear- how can we make this stuff drinkable, and more like brandy?” Bally 12 is a good starting point, or most anything by HSE.
@PBMichiganWolverine, thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep an eye out for it. "Less like rum" is the greatest selling point when it comes to rum.
@doneeb I’m generally prejudiced against rum too...but try Caroni. It’s really more like whiskey and less like rum
