In a nutshell, this is too hot and is perhaps the first bourbon I've added an ice cube to in years.
This website and BreakingBourbon did a good write up on this that that I agree with. For the record, I tried this on my own before reading any reviews. In any case, this bourbon is completely out-of-balance. Way too hot and spicy with not enough sweetness or other flavors whatsoever. Like you were making a cinnamon apple pastry but accidentally dumped the whole container of cinnamon in when the lid fell off.
Some ice made it drinkable, but it still wasn't likeable. I promise to revisit this after it has had some time to sit open.

@BeerNinjaEsq I've seen a few YouTube videos recently that are loving the Maker's Cask, I figured it was worth a purchase. Forgot about Rare Breed, also high priority. Although I currently have Russell's Single so I figure I'd try a non-Turkey product next. In NC not too many cask strength or 100+ options, but I do think Baker's, Rare Breed, and Jack Daniel's are on sale soon.
@Zachary-Robbins I haven't had the knob Creek in years, but I remember it being pretty good. I have a Maker's Mark cask-strength open right now and, while just fine, I much prefer Maker's 46 despite the lower proof. For under $50, my favorite is definitely Wild Turkey Rare Breed. For appx. $80, you can't beat Booker's
This is disappointing to hear. I really love the Single Barrel and thought I'd pick up the Full Proof next considering the price. Maybe I'll skip this for now and get Maker's Mark or Knob Creek. Have you had the 1792 High Rye or BiB?
@Whiskey_Hound I did end up revisiting this last night, but I have not had an opportunity to do a full review yet. after a week sitting open, it is definitely better, but I still don't love it. it has since picked up some interesting floral notes that is a cross between lavender and violet in my mind. nonetheless, it is still out of balance and far too hot. it is still my least favorite Barrel proof bourbon also.
Nice review. Personally, this is my least favorite Barrel proof bourbon to date
