Weller 12 Year Bourbon

Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

This is the whiskey that got me totally hooked. Full disclosure...I paid $180 for it in Vail Village, CO. I asked about Pappy 15, the clerk quoted me $1800...then said “I have something just as good for 1/10th the price.” I was drunk, on vacation in a rich man’s town, I got rolled...s-t happens. Zero regrets. Now that we have that out of the way...W12 is a very special pour. A very gentle bite at 92 proof and a light, sweet finish with plenty of BT’s signature goodness. Not quite Pappy but it’s in the same room. Buy it if you can get it for under $100...maybe more if you are feeling spendy. It won’t let you down.

@vakcmo - I had Lot B this week at a bar and then came home and tried W107 and W12 again. They DEFINITELY taste like they’re from the same family. I’ve tried Old Fitzgerald 13 - very good, but not worth the $250-$300 asking price I’ve been seeing.

@tdhovis have you tried Old Fitzgerald? It’s a wheat bourbon that is very good and it is not way overpriced. It also has a relationship with Van Winkle

@tdhovis Yes it has the same mash as Pappy but I cannot say Weller 12 is fantastic. It’s a good sipping whiskey but it’s way overrated. I’m sure if it wasn’t associated with Pappy it would be just an average bourbon.

@vakcmo - I’ve had Pappy 15 and Pappy 20. Is W12 as good? Absolutely not. But it shares a similar mash bill and is as close as anyone is going to get to that light, perfectly balanced BT aged wheater goodness for under $500. There are other solid wheaters out there, but there is a reason W12 has crept up in price. It is truly fantastic stuff.

@BeppeCovfefe - To each their own. I have Makers 46 and I wouldn’t even put it in the same zip code as W12.

I have had Pappy 20, sorry but Weller 12 is not even close to pappy. It’s more similar to Van Winkle Family Reserve 12 (which is over priced on secondary market) Try Rebel Yell 10yr. It’s not easy to find but price is around $80

It's not bad, I'd rather have a Makers 46 bottle and for yet another 1/5 the price you paid.
