Mildly preferable to the rye but still pretty average. Younger, slightly rougher and nothing complex going on. Really not sure how this distillery won awards...

@Soba45 gonna review an excellent one this evening from my home state of AZ!
@PBMichiganWolverine I've a sample of the Westland I'm looking fwd to. Couldn't get my hands on Stranahans sadly, Balcones people have raved about but I think I had samples from the time where they changed distillers and the stuff wasn't great for a while as I had a few and they were quite one dimensional, artificial etc.
@dubz480 Yes whilst I love trying new stuff I'm getting quite jaded tasting a lot of new distillery stuff. It often isn't (relatively) cheap and I feel like I'm wasting my time and liver cells. I used to try anything then last year moved to buying stuff that was a decent rating e.g. 3.7 plus but now unless you guys rave about something - 4.25 plus type thing I'm not really interested as there is too much out there. Still have to work my way through what I have a feeling is a lot of average samples.... its a tough life :-)
I recently had their Colorado Whiskey. Hard pass. So not worth the $50. They have a long way to go before they are on the same playing field as Westland , Balcones, and Stranahan’s.
Yeah, the 291 Barrel Proof Rye was pretty rough too. I am with you on the unwarranted hype. Plenty of craft young tasty Whiskey, this just isn't it!
