El Jolgorio Cuixe Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico

Smells of ashtray and paint thinner with some subtle roasted vegetables trying to poke through but keeps being overtaken by alcohol fumes. Taste is a little better with earthy vegetable notes, subtle tropical fruits, and clay-like minerality but then the finish kills it again. It's reminiscent of menthol cigarettes along with a harsh bitterness. This is by far the worst EJ bottle that I have had yet. For the money I laid down for it, I hope it gets better with time but that means I have to drink it to get to that point.

@mes227 I didn’t downrate it due to smoke. I’m actually a big fan of smoke.
Smoke isn’t for everyone but it’s really not fair to down rate a mezcal for being smokey when thats it’s style.
@PBMichiganWolverine taking the price into consideration, yes sir. There are glimpses of promise underneath the mess that I can only hope come out more with oxidation but, yeah, disappointment city.
Wow...a sub-3 score for EJ?
