Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

Reviewing Eagle Rare 10 yo is a poignant reminder of the inconsistencies in seeking certain whiskies. Some places are deserts of Eagle Rare, and yet I have no trouble finding it. On the flip side, I’d have to give up a kidney to taste some whiskies other folks seem to find so easily. Anyways, on to the review....
The nose is enticing - marasca cherries, almond, and oak. A touch of maple in there.
On the palate, more marasca cherries, vanilla, some oaky spices, oily nuts (walnuts/almonds), and the astringency and touches of black tea. The finish is warming and medium-length, with more oak coming out.
This is a very oak-forward bourbon, which I totally dig here. It’s well-balanced and delicious stuff that punches above its weight class. 90 proof is icing, and an age statement nowadays seems nearly unheard of. I also give them props for transparency in removing the single barrel statement from the label. At ~$30, it’s a bottle I’d always want to keep around. How long can we keep BT/Sazerac from tinkering with this VFM beauty? (Knock on wood....delicious, oaky wood...)

@ geologyjane If you're in N. Georgia I have 5 or 6 different Blantons you can sample, I have EH Taylor SiB and a few various others, just lemme know. Like you I don't condone the price gouging but I do understand bottles held back for "good customers" which is why I get some of mine. Cheers!
@BeppeCovfefe I still have yet to come across any of them. I would consider it if they were somewhat close to MSRP but I don’t want to support the rampant gouging I see most places. Unicorns...
@geologyjane just saw my first EH Taylor Amaranth and Four Grain locally, it's going to be way over priced so I won't be buying, same w/ the BTACs of course. Increased pressure from the whiskey renaissance has been a double edged sword for sure.
@BeppeCovfefe 😅 Blanton’s is next to impossible to find around me. As far as other BT offerings, I think I may die without ever laying eyes on bottles of BTAC, EH Taylor, Elmer T Lee, etc. in the wild. I will be seriously frustrated if ER10 disappears around me too.
@PBMichiganWolverine @QuinnDeskimo I have it on authority Buckingham Palace has swimming pools full of Blantons squirreled away beneath it.
Well you're exactly right, Saz is already "tinkering" as ER has become next to impossible to find outside of allocation here in N. Ga. Sazerac seems to go out of it's way to create as much after delivery allocation as possible. Same true for Weller Green label, which can largely be chalked up to buyer ignorance for over demand of something that is really very ordinary.
@PBMichiganWolverine 😄
@QuinnDEskimo and Kim Jong-Il. Let’s not forget giving him some blame. You know he just looks like he’s hiding something.
@PBMichiganWolverine oh and all the jackasses with 6 bottles of it n their closets as “backups”. Drives me nuts. Errrrr
@PBMichiganWolverine here in FL we have people post when BT shipments are going out so they can go and snatch it all up. It’s ridiculous. I’ve seen older men walk into stores asking for BT only to have the store clerk tell them it’s allocated. They don’t understand what/why the hell has happened to the whiskey they’ve been drinking for years is suddenly impossible to find. I feel bad every time I see it. We can thank the millennials for this and Obama. LOL.
@BDanner likewise in NJ...here in northern NJ, tons of it readily available. No hype. No price gauging. Just plain good reasonably priced bourbon
@PBMichiganWolverine ...and for what is still, for all intents and purposes, a Single Barrel offering. Even though they don't call it such, it is still dumped one barrel at a time and not vatted. A great value if you can find it. I don't know what happened here in NC (I think it is a reward for the state starting to stock Wheatley Vodka) but it is readily available now after being a rare find for the last 5 years. Whatever the reason, I'm not complaining and enjoying the windfall while I can.
I’m surprised they haven’t raised the price on this...a 10 yr old at this price is damn good. And you’re right...some places, it’s shelves of it, other places it’s like hunting for Pappy.
