American Single Malt — Arizona, USA

I accidentally bought this bottle instead of the Del Bac Dorado ( which marketing genius made them look 99% alike???!!). I had some family coming over, and knowing they love Glenfiddich 12, I took a wild guess they might like this. I was right—-was totally devoured. Me, on the other hand, not a fan. Maybe for the same reason that I don’t like Glenfiddich 12...bland, boring, too tepid.
Starts off with mild heather /honey combo, some cinnamon, allspice, but fades really quickly. Given that the Dorado is just a bit more, go for that—-it’s so much better ( probably my favorite affordable American whiskey). But—-if you want something safe, non-combative, easy to please masses ( holiday party) go for this.

@dubz480 that makes sense. The regular Dorado is very smoke and mesquite forward (in a great way!) but I would imagine a shall we say less constrained version being a bit too much.
@WhiskeyLonghorn they actually did once put here as part of there Distiller Cut series. It was a little too much for me personally! Very Very big. @PBMichiganWolverine, yeah man classic is fine but no Dorado!
@WhiskeyLonghorn the uncut one would be interesting to try. I’d imagine though to try a pour first...makes me wonder if uncut would be like licking the mesquite itself !
Also, fun fact about the Dorado. Apparently when they get ready to bottle it, they first blend their mesquite smoked whisky with this stuff to create the flavor profile of the Dorado. The brand rep said maybe one day they’ll release a special single cask of the uncut mesquite smoked whisky.
Pity you missed the Dorado, but glad you found a use for this one. I agree, the original is fine, but nothing special. Reminds me of the early barrels of Stranahans when they were first getting off the ground.
