This is my 3rd Octomore after the 7.1 and 8.1 and I'd say so far none have blown me away that much, but then again I would say that about most of Bruichladdichs offerings bar Port Charlotte 10 and Black Art. This is my least favorite Octomore so far. If you like lemony citrus peat profile you'll love this, me not so much. Limited bitter aftertaste. 3.5 at a push. If you added price into the equation it'd fall lower. 8.1, 7.1 and 8.4 would be the ordering for me.

@cascode Good to hear as I have a sample of the 6.1.5 buried away somewhere :-)
On the whole I'd rather have a Port Charlotte over an Octomore - they show greater consistency of quality and a more agreable type of peat reek. The two exceptions of my experience are the Octomore 10 yo 2nd edition and the older Octomores (5.1 and 6.1 were outstanding). I believe 9.3 was also very well regarded but I've not tasted it myself.
@Soba45 totally agree...they price it as “ most peaty”...but scientifically, above 50-80ppm, makes no difference to the human nose
@PBMichiganWolverine And to add I just think whilst not a bad product it's just priced way out of wack for the overall product i.e. complexity and flavour (limited). The Black Art isn't that more but it way more interesting, complex etc. I just think the range needs to be half the price it is i.e. above the Port Charlotte 10 which is not to badly priced, but not often double just because it's soley. highly ppm and abv
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah I think my problem with this range is it's priced on marketing i.e. the whole premise that its premium product on the sole basis that it's the most peatiest whiskey - which given a) Past a certain ppm it's meaningless in terms of human taste and b) what's the final ppm anyhow
These are so varied from decent to amazing...all expensive though. I’ve had the 10yr old recently which was really good, but I’ve also had a few that were simply okay
