Ok I'm doing something I very very rarely do (in fact I'm pretty sure I could count on 2 fingers the number of times and one was a mistake)...and that is post a separate review. Generally I might tweak up and down a bit but when there is a quantum leap up or down where I don't think it's just my taste buds then a new rating arises. Yonks ago I had a quite poor version of this in fact my worst ever Talisker which given the amount I've drunk of the distilleries offerings is saying something! This is a different beast all together. Very nice creamy peaty vanilla..beautiful blend. Definitely 4.25 territory...the prior version was over wooded from memory. Redemption! Although saying that I'd rate this a 3 way joint 2nd with the Neist and Rouge and behind the 8 yr Special Release. Oh and this was the 45% version.

@Soba45 Thank you for your review. What was the year of release of your Talisker 25 yo?
@Soba45 thanks for the tip. I just opened my bottle of Talisker 18 and it was magical! I hope we see the 8 again too. Never got to try it...
@PBMichiganWolverine boo on tariffs! Glad I stocked up on Scotch this year. I’m guessing we’ll see the price of American whiskey go up stateside too to pick up the slack from the dip in international sales...
@WhiskeyLonghorn and with the 25% tariffs, no longer worth it
@WhiskeyLonghorn Personally I think no. It's $260USD and it'd have to be half the price before I'd think about biting and even then I don't think I would as I'd be pissed if it was a dud batch. The 18 I had wasn't terrible but wasn't the greatest batch. I also like the Talisker profile full on and 18+ years in a cask mutes it down to much for my taste. Personally I think the 8 year special release was the best one ever. It was something like $50 when it came out but now it's nearly triple the cost and I can't get it here in NZ. I'm hoping like Lagavullin 8 and 12 year special releases the Talisker 8 becomes a permanent item and the quality still holds. I could drown in a vat of the stuff and die a happy man :-)
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah 100% confident on that :-)
Great review! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how bottles change over time and even batch variation between bottles. Would you recommend hunting down a bottle of this? It’s quite pricey, but from one Talisker fan to another, is it good VFM?
This is probably also one of those where there’s huge batch differences
